The Goldsmith
Sean Ferguson developed an early interest in jewellery making. He enjoyed countless hours in his youth watching his father's goldsmiths forge precious metal. This fascination led to a jewelry apprenticeship. This time was spent honing his skills under the watchful eyes of several European Master Goldsmiths. The desire to achieve excellence led Sean to apply and work for several top award-winning designer jewellery studios. He focused on the fine art of platinum crafting and fabricating complicated high-end jewellery. When the time was right it seemed like a good idea to start his very own business. Ferguson Jewelry Co. was established in 1999. Sean now specializes in custom ring designs for engagements, weddings, and anniversaries. We also do custom wedding rings, high-end jewellery repair, and special occasions.
The Process
Ferguson Jewellery Co. is a smaller shop, but we pack a fair sized punch in Calgary's jewellery scene. We try to give our clients the best service experience possible. Our low overhead also helps us to be extremely competitive. Being born into a jewellery family has helped us to be very aware of the needs and desires of our clientele.
There are several common concerns when considering purchasing custom jewellery. The word "custom" often suggest high costs. Clients may think "will I like the finished product" or "does the designer understand what I want"? Here you won't talk to a salesperson, who tells a designer, who then tells the Goldsmith. Too much is lost along the way. At Ferguson Jewellery Co. you can talk directly to the goldsmith. They will take you through a step by step process to ensure that your vision is realized.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
First there is an initial consultation, with a few rough sketches. This is followed by either a more exacting sketch or 3-d computer rendering. We then follow up with a hand carved or computer rendered wax mold. This is depending on the degree of difficulty. We always use hand-crafting and calibration techniques. Our goal is to ensure beautiful, strong, long-lasting, and precise pieces of jewellery. These pieces are generally more substantial and much more durable than the mass-produced counterpart.
At Ferguson Jewellery Co. we adhere to the age-old adage "you get what you pay for". Mass produced rings from repeat molds are often fraught with imperfections. Often the untrained eye can miss these imperfections at first glance. These rings are also frequently Rhodium plated to make them look whiter. Lightly plated Rhodium can wear off relatively quickly. This can produce a yellowing effect. Hollowing out behind rings is another method used by the retailers to keep costs down. Thin sharp points can cut into your finger or collect bacteria. Rashes and sharp ridges will greatly lessen the enjoyment of your jewellery. Extra heavy rings are the exceptions. We sometimes hollow heavier rings for comfort only.
TURN AROUND TIME
Our turn around time can be from three to six weeks when you give us the go-ahead. This is the time it takes to produce a beautiful, unique, professionally finished piece of jewellery. You can expect longer wait times during our busy season. What is a few extra weeks compared to a lifetime of wear? As for retail sales, we try to keep that to a minimum.
VISA, MASTERCARD, and INTERACT are all accepted. Sorry, we do not accept personal cheques.
Important Information About Your Purchase
Hey there! I just wanted to take a moment to clarify a few things about your purchase.
Warranty Details
While I don’t offer an official warranty (I’m just a small operation here!), I’ve taken a peek at some of the big guys’ warranties, and let me tell you, they can be quite the maze to navigate!
Potential Issues to Keep in Mind
Here are a few things you might want to consider:
Diamonds:
They’re stunning, but they can be a bit delicate. If they happen to take a hit in just the wrong way, they might break due to their cleavage lines.Platinum:
While it’s a beautiful metal, it’s also softer than you might think. The prongs can bend away from the diamond over time. That’s why I often recommend 19k white gold—it’s not only super shiny and white but also incredibly durable! Insurance RecommendationFor peace of mind, I highly recommend getting your ring insured. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
My Commitment to You
Rest assured, if you ever encounter any issues, I’m here for you and will promise to fix it. Your satisfaction is my priority! Thanks for choosing me! Enjoy your beautiful piece!
